To Nap, With Care…Let’s Rest.
Written by Natasha Cheatham, Founder
In the last 12 months, July marks the end of the year for the Side Hustle Economy Co. and this last year has absolutely been one for the books. So often, we don’t take the time to look back at what we’ve accomplished because we’re focused on the next exciting thing, but this past year warrants a review because Naptown’s side hustlers made it happen!
July 2021 marked a very special moment for the Side Hustle Economy Co. because on July 20, 2021, we hosted our inaugural Side Hustle Economy Summit followed by our inaugural $3 And A Dream Convention. During our inaugural summit, we hosted presentations and panel discussions with local entrepreneurs and side hustlers where we learned about how to manage our money effectively and keep our mental health in check. This inaugural summit set the tone for the rest of the year which brought even more Black excellence.
In the Fall of 2021, we partnered with organizations like LISC Indy, Versiti Blood Center, SHE. Xperience, and Verizon to bring even more business resources and community connection to the Side Hustle Economy community. We learned about how to transform our businesses from a Sole Proprietorship to an LLC and how to fight Sickle Cell Anemia in the Black Community. We ran up the numbers on the Verizon Small Business Digital Ready platform and talked about what we learned at Black Business Study Halls with Ms. Katina Washington of the SHE. Xperience. Y’all showed out for the Powerpreneur Development Program and Winning With A Purpose Workshops. We got weekly doses of need-to-know knowledge from our founder Murdock with Make It Make $ense Mondays, and we rounded out the year with a Bless The Hustle podcast workshop and the first $3 And A Dream Grant Program while making our side hustles Pitch Perfect with the Kheprw Institute.
2022 began with a bang as we hosted Black Wealth Week during Black History Month. We heard from Northwestern Mutual, Balance Period, and The JL Law Firm about how to build and protect our wealth. This all led to our 2nd Annual Side Hustle Economy Summit where we reached new heights.
While July is a month of rest for the Side Hustle Economy Co., we want to acknowledge how valuable each and every side hustler in the Side Hustle Economy Co. community is to this organization and this city. This organization exists to serve Black side hustlers in Indianapolis because we all make the city what it is. From July 2021 to July 2022, none of our events would have had as much impact without each one of you. Every year we’re able to do more and more because of the dedication you all have to your side hustles and your city. Y’all are special and we are grateful to be able to do this work alongside you.
The coming months will bring a lot more resources and opportunities, but for now we rest!
Have a beautiful, Black, and bold day! 💚❤️🖤
